To ensure you can buy with confidence from us, we have provided the following short guide to IBC tanks Flowbins fittings and adaptors.
Lids & Caps
Our Range of IBCs are available with a choice of standard, overpressure and breather vented lids.
The standard Flowbins lid size is 150mm (6 inch), however, they are also available with larger 220mm (9 inch) lids which allow improved access to the inside of the tank for maintenance and cleaning purposes.
The overpressure lid will allow pressure inside the tank to escape the tank, preventing the tank from collapsing in on itself, while the vented lid will allow air inside the tank, allowing it to breathe and prevent the contents from stagnating.
Pipe Elbow
A pipe elbow is a fitting which is bent in such a way to change the direction of the flow in the pipe. It is also used to change the overall direction of the piping, such as when installing it around a corner.
Vents
A vented tank will allow the tank to breathe as the water level rises and falls and helps to keep the contents fresh. It will also help to release any pressure inside the tank and allow the contents to be emptied without glugging.
Adaptors
Flowbins adaptors screw on to the Flowbin valave and convert a standard Flowbin outlet to a number of commonly used Flowbins fittings including BSP, Hozelock and camlock fittings.
The hozelock and hose tail fittings allow you to quickly attach your hose, making them ideal if you intend to use the valve inside your Flowbin to water your plants.
The BSP fittings are ideal for industrial and agricultural applications as they allow a wide range of BSP fittings to be connected to your Flowbin valve.
Swivel Buttresses
The swivel buttresses attach to the Flowbin valve and are designed to be used with hose fittings. A swivel buttress can be fitted and used without kinking or twisting the hose, making it ideal for domestic tasks such as watering the garden and washing the car.
Hose Tails
A hose tail fitting will screw on to the Flowbin valve and allow you to directly connect your hose. The hose tail fittings are available in a wide range of sizes from ½ inch up to 2 inch.
A tip for choosing the correct size hose barb is to not measure the outer diameter (OD) of your hose, instead always measure the inner diameter (ID). For example, if your hose has an internal diameter of 25mm (1″), you need a 25mm (1″) hose tail.
How to measure the IBC tanks or Flowbins Fittings
Remember that Flowbins come in a variety of different sized threads including the S60X6, as well as S75X6, S92X4 and S100X8.
There are two measurements you need to take into consideration when you are measuring the thread on your Flowbin valve; The outside diameter (OD) and the Thread Pitch.
To measure the outside diameter (OD), use a ruler or (Vernier) to take the measurement across the outlet but always make sure the measurement includes the threads (see on the right hans side). Due to the small scale of the threads, all the measurements are in millimeters and make up the first part of the thread code.

The Different Types of Flowbins Fittings
Now you know how to measure your Flowbin thread, we are going to show you how some of the adaptors can be used, and how to install them.
Female to Male Camlock Adaptor
First, here’s part A of the female to make Camlock Adaptor (picture below).

Beside is an example of an S60X6 to male cam, and this fitting is available in a few sizes: 100A (1″), 150A (1 ½”), and 200A (2″). Just like we touched on how to measure and attach the IBC tanks fittings, it simply screws straight onto the IBC valve before being ready to attach to a cam (see below).

Female Thread by Female Thread
Next, we have a Female Thread-by-Female thread (see below).

The Female Thread-by-Female Thread comes in S60X6 by 2″ BSP¾ with the options for fittings being : 1 ½” or 2″ with either a BSP or NPS thread. Like the other fittings, this simply screws onto the IBC tank (see below).

Male Thread by Female Thread
The Male Thread-by-Female Thread fittings are available in the following sizes: ¾”, 1″, 1 ½”, and 2″ (see below).

All the different-sized Male Thread-by-Female Thread IBC tanks fittings come in BSP & NPS maning you can attach any other fitting of the same size straight onto your IBC tank. The fitting process is simply just a case of screwing it on (see below).

Female Thread-by-Hosetail
If you want to attach a hose directly to your tank, you need a fitting with a hosetail; this fitting as you can see is a Female-by-Hosetail (see below).

This particular fitting is available is 1″, 1 ¼”, 1 ½” and 2″, and you can screw it on very easily.
IBC Garden Hose Kit
Finally, there are instances when it’s necessary to attach an IBC to a garden hose and we have just the thing. This garden hose kit comes as one complete kit, so you won’t need to buy anything else (see below).

Like all the other fittings, this simply screws straight onto the IBC tank as usual and then you can just attach your garden hose (see below).
